Amati waits and Strad Moves Forward

12/28/2011

A violin patterned after the 1566 Amati is ready for varnishing which will happen when the weather warms up in the spring.
I really like the look of it and think it will be great.  I would call this a small 4/4 violin.  Others might call it a large 7/8.

I've started a violin modeled after the 1715 Medici Strad.  So I'm going from my smallest model to my largest.

I'm not sure what compelled me to choose the Strad.  Probably the fact that I've had good luck with it in the past and I had not made one of these for a while.

I'm using European maple and Colorado Englemann spruce on this one.  Just for fun, I went with willow linings instead of spruce.
