I am busy showing off the violins that were varnished this spring and summer. They all sound great but different. They need some playing time which I find difficult to provide. The feedback on these instruments has been very gratifying.
I have on hand a Steiner copy, my own design which is a larger version of my original design, and an Andrea Amati copy.
Most of the fuss has been made over the Amati copy. It is the size of a large 7/8ths violin, although back in the day it was considered full size.
It has a warmth, volume and range that you don't expect from such an instrument. Most people aren't expecting much when they pick it up but upon playing it, they say things like "Oh my goodness!" This is a very comfortable and delightful sounding instrument for people who find a 4/4 violin to be cumbersome.
I will be ready to part with these violins mid-fall and I expect the price to be around $4k.
