In addition to playing on several occasions with wonderful musicians, I managed to bring home enough spruce to make violins and cellos for 5+ years.
This is where violins are grown, at least the part of the violin that is spruce. This photo was taken at a farmer's market in Valemount, B.C. The 2 people on the left and the one on the right are members of the Carson family who supply top quality spruce tonewood. The guitar player is a guitar maker, Rick McCallum of Montana Guitar Shop. There I am in the middle. Gordon's playing a 5 string viola made with his tonewood. My violin is also made with Gordon's tonewood.
